NEW Design Tire Gauge - Great looking new graphics, now reads in 1/2 lb. increments and includes both angle and ball chucks.

  • 2 1/2" Deluxe Gauge with protective bumper
  • 1/2 lb. increments with 2% accuracy
  • 17" hose with swivel angle chuck installed with alternate ball chuck included
  • HOLDS PRESSURE UNTIL RELEASED
  • Glow-in-the-Dark dial face
  • Specially designed vent valve to equalize pressure and maintain gauge accuracy

ALL liquid filled gauges are purposely filled to just 80%. The remaining 20% air pocket helps allow for thermal expansion and contraction as ambient temperature changes, thereby maintaining accuracy. If the gauge were filled to 100% even the slightest temperature change would significantly affect gauge readings as the expanding fluid would have no place to go. To give you even further accuracy over a wide operating range these Longacre gauges have a Special Vent Valve on the top of the gauge. A quick turn of the knob allows you to totally equalize internal and external pressures, guaranteeing the best accuracy possible.

Liquid filled gauges have many advantages. But they can change readings by as much as 2-3 psi if the temperature changes...

All pressure gauges - liquid filled and regular - need to be vented to the outside to read accurately. If not vented, as the surrounding temperature changes, they will build up pressure inside and affect the accuracy - by as much as 2-3 psi!

But if a liquid filled gauge is vented it will leak on your hands and in your tool box. Some manufacturers aren't aware of this and don't vent the gauge. You then have to deal with the variation in accuracy.

Now from Longacre comes the simple answer to this problem. We have installed a specially designed pressure equalizer valve on the top of the gauge. Before you use the gauge just loosen the knob on top of the gauge 1/4 turn, then hand retighten. Instantly any temperature-caused pressure difference will be eliminated and you will be guaranteed the most accurate readings possible.

If you have a liquid filled tire gauge prove it to yourself. Take your gauge that has been in a cool place and in the typical range you use. Then take the gauge and put it out in the sun for about 45 minutes, as would happen during a race. Then re-check the tire that is still in the cool place. You will see that the reading has changed. You know that the pressure in the tire is the same so the gauge reading must now be off. How will this affect your handling to have tire pressures high or low by several psi? What's worse is that you don't know at what temp the gauge is actually correct! It depends on the temp in the factory when it was manufactured. You could remove the rubber fill plug on the gauge. But then the liquid would leak out.

Materials

Material Selection Guide

We offer 4 materials for our numbers, letters and panel numbers: Magnetic, Reusable Vinyl, Permanent Vinyl and Static Cling. They are designed for use on different types of cars and for different kinds of use

Magnetic

Magnetic material is the most durable removable product we sell. It works well for application on steel bodied cars at speeds generally below 70 MPH. It can be used for higher speeds, but may have a tendency to blow off. We recommend testing to see if your car is magnetic using a fridge magnet or something similar prior to ordering.

 PROS:

  • Durable
  • Lasts decades.
  • Easy to clean

 CONS:

  • Can lose flexibility in cold weather (should be put on hood in sunlight to warm up when using at events under 45 degrees)
  • Limited to approximately 70mph. If using at speeds higher than this, it is recommended to apply a small piece of tape to the leading edge to avoid blowing off.
  • Does not adhere to fiberglass, plastic, glass, or aluminum

Reusable Vinyl

SOLOTIME reusable vinyl products allow you to apply temporary numbers to your car and reuse them event after event. The material is extra thick* which helps prevent tearing or stretching the numbers when they are removed.

The low tack adhesive numbers come on a paper backing that allows you to store them between events.

PROS:

  • Adheres to any smooth surface (including windows)
  • Will stay on at any speed.
  • Works in any temperature.

CONS:

  • Must be put back on backing paper in between uses.
  • Must be put on a clean car and adhesive must be kept clean.
  • Typical users get between 6-18 uses.

* about 8-12mils, compared to 2-3 for a regular decal.

Permanent Vinyl

"Permanent" vinyl material is your typical vinyl that any pre made decal or sticker would be made with. It can be removed, but will be destroyed in the process of removal. The permanent vinyl is a high quality 5-7 year rated outdoor material.

 PROS:

  • Very long lasting.
  • Will stay on at any speed.

CONS:

  • Cannot be removed without destroying

Static Cling

Click for the static cling installation instructions.

SOLOTIME static cling products are autocross tested and work well for low speed events. These products cling to most smooth surfaces, such as fiberglass, plastic, steel, or aluminum. They even cling to glass!

Each static cling number or letter comes with a special paper backing that keeps them ready for the next autocross event. Note: Please test these numbers on your vehicle before you use them at a racing event.

Unlike strong magnets or adhesives, static cling products may blow off your vehicle during unusual racing or weather conditions. We recommend that you order extra numbers as a precaution.

PROS:
  • Inexpensive
  • Works on any smooth surface

CONS:

  • Must be applied very carefully.
  • Comes in white only and is not available as a base for panel/meatball numbers.
  • May come off during wet events.
